FAQs
Upholstery & Furniture Restoration
Q: What types of furniture do you upholster and restore?
A: I upholster and restore a wide range of furniture, including chairs, sofas, stools and other upholstered pieces. Each item is assessed individually to ensure it can be restored properly and sympathetically. If you have your own project in mind, just get in contact to discuss your requirements.
Q: Do you work on both modern and antique furniture?
A: Yes, I work on both modern and antique pieces, taking care to respect the original structure and character of older furniture while giving it a new lease of life. I prefer to use techniques and tools with a deep respect for tradition - bringing character, comfort, and enduring beauty back to a piece that’s been forgotten by time.
Q: Can you repair internal structures like springs and padding?
A: Yes, structural repairs such as springs, webbing and padding are carried out as part of the upholstery process where needed, ensuring the piece is comfortable as well as beautifully finished while ensuring the item has a new lease of life.
Bespoke Soft Furnishings & Interior Details
Q: What bespoke soft furnishings do you make?
A: Alongside upholstery and reupholstery, I create bespoke interior soft furnishings from my Newquay, Cornwall studio. This includes made-to-measure cushions and handcrafted lampshades, designed to complement your furniture and interior space. These items go quickly, so i havent brought them online yet but they are coming soon.
Q: Are bespoke items made to order?
A: Yes, all bespoke soft furnishings are made to order. Sizes, shapes, fabrics and finishes are tailored to suit your home and personal style.
Q: Can you help tie soft furnishings in with an upholstered piece?
A: Absolutely. Soft furnishings can be designed to work alongside reupholstered furniture, helping to create a cohesive and considered interior scheme.
Fabrics, Materials & Design Guidance
Q: Do you help with fabric and colour choices?
A: Yes. I’m happy to offer guidance on fabric selection, colour and texture, helping you choose materials that suit both the furniture and the wider space. I have experience and access to so many different styles, colours, textures and materials, to ensure we can recreate your vision for your home or office.
Q: Can I provide my own fabric?
A: Customer-supplied fabrics are accepted, but sometimes these materials will not be suitable for all projects or repairs. Please contact me to discuss what you have and how you would like it integrated into your custom pieces and we can proceed from there. I can also support you with measuring and calculating how much of your desired material will be needed prior to purchasing.
Q: Do you use traditional upholstery techniques?
A: Yes. My work combines traditional upholstery and reupholstery techniques with thoughtful, contemporary design to ensure each piece is both comfortable and long-lasting.
The Reupholstery Process & Timescales
Q: How does the reupholstery process work?
A: Each project begins with a conversation about your furniture and ideas. Pieces are carefully stripped back, repaired where needed, and reupholstered using traditional methods, with close attention to detail throughout.
Q: How long does reupholstery take?
A: Timescales vary depending on the size and condition of the piece, fabric choice and current workload. Once we have had an initial conversation about your requirements i will be able to give you a good idea of how long the project will take and can agree on deadlines etc.
Q: Do you offer consultations before starting work?
A: I am happy to provide a consultation in person in Newquay, Cornwall, or handled via email, video call or photographs.
